New Report Shines a Light on Circular Economy Hubs — Featuring The Loop

A great new report from UCL’s Plastic Waste Innovation Hub is out now, asking the simple but vital question: what are circular economy hubs, and who are they for?

Among the 20 hubs studied worldwide, The Loop — run by us — is highlighted as a model for community-led circular economy in action. The report shows how hubs like ours bridge the gap between innovation theory and lived reality, delivering social, environmental, and economic benefits right here in East London.

Why this matters:

  • Circular economy hubs are shaping the future of sustainable cities.

  • They connect material flows, skills, and social networks to create real change.

  • Community development trusts like ours ensure those benefits stay local.

Big thanks to Dr Rob Hewlett and the UCL team for doing the heavy academic lifting while we keep running laps on the track. Turning research into action, day in, day out.
